Voice Activity Detection and Comfort Noise Generation Software (VAD and CNG Software)
Floreat’s Voice Activity Detection software (VAD software) and Comfort Noise Generator software (CNG software) are used to reduce the transmission rate during silence periods of speech while maintaining an acceptable level of the output quality. The VAD classifies the input signal into active speech, silence or background noise. Based on the VAD decisions, discontinuous transmission (DTX) inserts Silence Insertion Descriptor (SID) frames during the silence intervals and SID's are periodically sent to the CNG module, which generates ambient noise during periods of silence on the receive side, this avoid a suspicion of line disconnection. The usage of VAD and CNG are in Voice over IP Gateways, Codecs, Digital Answering Machines, speech enhancements and applications where it is important to reduce the transmitted bit rate in order to save the processing resources during the silence intervals of speech.
The Floreat Voice Activity Detection and Comfort Noise Generation software are modular, re-locatable and re-entrant to support multi-channel capability and can operate within a multi-tasking environment or as a single task.
It supports user callable functions and can be integrated with Floreat’s other fax, telephony, speech compression, VoIP, FoIP, DSVD, imaging and video software for various applications. Floreat VAD and CNG software are supported on various DSPs and processors as well as offered in ANSI C.
