FloFax Application Software

Floreat’s FloFax Application Software enables the transmission and reception of documents over a general switched telephone network. It is based on the ITU-T Rec. T.30, ITU-T Rec. T.31 and ITU-T Rec. T.4 and provides the user an efficient method of sending and receiving facsimile over PSTN.

What does it do?
FloFax Application Software allows the computing platform to mimic the operation of a fax machine. It does the following:

  1. Reads and writes TIFF files
    1. In an outgoing fax mode, TIFF files are read and are sent to a remote Fax Machine.
    2. In an incoming fax mode, a fax message received from a remote fax machine is stored as a TIFF file.
  2. Implements the ITU-T T.30 protocol
    The T.30 is the core protocol used for fax transmission and reception. Along with ITU-T Rec.T.31, it maintains communication with the fax modem and defines the procedures necessary for document transmission between two facsimile devices. The fax procedures can be split into 5 stages:

    1. Phase A: Call setup
    2. Phase B: Pre-message negotiation / handshake
    3. Phase C: Message transmission
    4. Phase D: Post-message procedure including end-of-message, confirmation and multiple page procedures
    5. Phase E: Call release
  3. In addition to procedures mentioned in ITU-T T.30, Floreat Fax Application implements innovative methods to ensure interoperability with various fax machines and fax modems.

How was Floreat Fax Application tested?
The T.30 standard was first introduced in 1988 by the ITU-T. Several fax machines commissioned then are still in service and millions more have been developed and deployed since then. Floreat’s interoperability testing used physical fax machines and FaxLab® software suite which implements the profiles of hundreds of fax machines including some very old ones.
